Attached you will find an early edition of our
newsletter and how fortuitous…our next f-64 Challenge.
There is only
about 72 hours left to enter the March f-64 Challenge. This month’s Challenge is
“Complementary Colors”. Complementary colors are colors that are found opposite
each other on the photographer’s color wheel. Example: Red + Cyan are
complementary colors as are Magenta + Green and Blue + Yellow. The challenge is
first to find these color combinations and then secondly, capture the image in a
creative way. Keep in mind that there are no restrictions on the use of
PhotoShop or any other image editing software. Also, there are no restrictions
on subject matter.
The Hampton Roads Digital Shutterbug Club is growing
so much so that; we have begun to outgrow the capacity of the Holly Room at the
Norfolk Botanical Garden. Thanks to the efforts of Norfolk Botanical Garden
staff and Kemp Savage we have been relocated to the Administration Building.
This facility will have the capacity of holding 80 members and hopefully no
member will be left standing at our next meeting. The Fire Marshall will also
be happy. The Administration Building is located in the first group of
buildings on the left just after you enter the Botanical Garden. Parking is
limited and it is suggested that those with disabilities be dropped off prior to
parking in the main lot. There are some that may object to the long walk but I
myself think of my glass as half full…an opportunity to get a little exercise
and a photo op going to and from our meeting. I hope that you too will take the
time to “Smell the Roses” in route to our next meeting. (See map on page 2 of
the Shutterbug newsletter)
In April we will have our first big field trip
of the year thanks to the efforts of Dan McCane and his wife Linda. This is a
combined field trip up to Richmond and includes stops at both the Lewis Ginter
Gardens & the Maymont Estate, on Saturday, April 13, 2013. You will not
want to miss this opportunity. There are a lot of Photo Ops at both of these
locations. See the details also published in this edition of our Newsletter.
Lewis Ginter is a reciprocating member garden, so if you are a member of the
Norfolk Botanical Gardens, that membership will get you into Lewis Ginter for
As mentioned at our last meeting, I will not be in
attendance at the April meeting. Cathy Peyton has stepped up to the plate and
will conduct our next meeting in my absence. Our guest speaker will be Mike
Brown and his topic will be “Strategies for Close-Ups in Nature
