Skip Shepard
The Hampton Roads Digital Shutterbug Club was a large contributor to my growth as a photographer. The only cameras I’d ever owned were point and shoot, and I hadn’t owned one of them for over 15 years until 2006. I bought a Nikon D70 and started going to the Norfolk Botanical Garden in late February. In the spring of 2006 I was sharing stories with another photographer who just happened to mention that there was a photography club that met monthly at the Garden. I joined the HRDSC shortly thereafter. With photography I’d found a passion for a hobby that had been absent for years, and I worked at improving right out of the box. I practiced, I studied, I listened, I made many mistakes, and eventually I started to learn. I am still becoming a photographer. Sometimes I think there are too many facets to becoming a truly good photographer for me to master in my lifetime. Then I remember ‘it’s the journey that important, not the destination’. So on with the journey … Skip participated in the juried 2010 Norfolk Collegiate “Off the Wall” Art Show and Sale held in January. In February 2010 his photography was on display at the Virginia Beach Central Library in a solo show. In April 2009 and 2010 Skip was an invited artist at the Norfolk Academy Art Gallery. Skip was born and raised in Vermont. After serving in the Army he moved to Virginia, and has lived in South Hampton Roads for the last 30 years. He currently resides in Norfolk and works for a Virginia Beach construction firm.
